Mallary, thank YOU for your beautiful writing, your vulnerability, and the way you are creating space for a much-needed conversation. I think so many folks will feel seen and validated by this episode! xoxo
I see calling out diet culture as a part of being active in recovery as well. In my opinion, it’s impossible to reach “full recovery” in a society that itself is sick. So in calling out diet culture and working from a body liberation standpoint, I consider that both rejuvenating and protective in regards to the recovery journey
I completely agree that calling out diet culture can be a vital part of recovery. It’s protective, it returns us to our power, and reminds us that we're not "wrong" -- the culture is. Such an important part of healing in a world that still upholds harmful norms.
And you’re so right — we can't talk about “full recovery” without acknowledging that we live in a culture that’s still sick in its own way, and without acknowledging how privileges impact the ability to access recovery itself.
I think the beauty of recovery is that it’s defined differently from person to person. There’s no single finish line — just many ways of coming home to ourselves. I’m really grateful this episode resonated with you and I'm so glad you're here!
I'm so glad the episode resonated with you and that you've found it helpful to call out diet culture. Most of us are never taught to do this until far after the damage has been done. I think learning to identify it and call it out is a big part of eating disorder prevention — and protection, in recovery.
Very grateful for you being here, Elizabeth, and always love hearing from you. Thank you so much for letting us know that this resonated! I'd love to do a follow-up episode on this topic, it was a much-needed one.❤️
Abbie, thank you so much for featuring me and my book SLIP! I really enjoyed our conversation.

I hope you'll check out my book SLIP, where I delve into this more deeply. I also wrote a related story a couple of weeks ago for USA Today that might be of interest: https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/health-wellness/2025/09/22/glp-1-weight-loss-ads-kids/86197871007/
