Red vines licorice. Must be red vines. If you bring me twizzlers I will shun you. And vitamin water. The regular kind with sugar, not the zero sugar ones. Bonus points if they are just slightly frozen.

YOU WILL BE SHUNNED. lol. Ohhh love the slightly frozen idea! Also yes to the sugar. We need that glucose, especially when sick!

McDonald’s fries are the only food I want after a migraine

Cait! Why are those fries SO HEALING????

I love sweet & salty food combos, and one such possibly weird but definitely wonderful (well, yummy, at least) version of this is McDonald's hot, salty fries dunked in their cold, creamy vanilla soft-serve—the ice cream acts as a dip for the fries.

McDonald’s ice cream is so good! I love a vanilla ice cream cone for dessert.🍦

When I’m sick, I also crave vanilla pudding. I love it all the time, too, though!

Other things I crave when I’m sick are Wendy’s Frostys (vanilla if they have it, but I like chocolate too), Annie’s boxed macaroni and cheese, and the Trader Joe’s frozen mashed potatoes. I’m also a carbs when I’m sick person. They’re super comforting and remind me of childhood when my mom would make me my favorites when I had to stay home from school.

The frozen mashed potatoes are such a good idea. I should pick those up next time I'm there!

I’ve been struggling with going to Trader Joe’s because of the rhetoric around ultra processed food right now. I finally decided to go last week and got a lot of fun new foods.

I got a couple new desserts you should try, if you haven’t, too. The strawberry cloud cake is amazing. It’s like strawberry shortcake with custard in the middle. I also loved the Japanese soufflé cheesecakes. It comes with two, but they are really small, so I ate both at one time. They’re in the frozen dessert section if you want to try them.

Sending you BIG love, Elizabeth. Whenever you feel fear creep up about food, remember someone (other than you) is benefitting from that fear. I always see fear-mongering about food as a red flag for misinformation. We can have nuance without scare tactics. I am SO glad you made it to TJs for some delicious things! I'll check those out too!

Thanks! I know the fear mongering doesn’t apply to me anyway, but it’s hard to avoid when I have anxiety, autism, OCD, and an ED. I am not the target audience for those messages (not that they should be targeted to anyone), but they get to me more than they should.

I know you love ice cream. Have you tried the coffee brownie ice cream sandwiches from Trader Joe’s? Those are a purchase every time I go!

Am sick now - fibro flare. And all I want to eat are sunflower seeds and chocolate, separately. And tea. No bread. No coffee.

I hated hitting "like" on this comment because I'm not "liking" that you're in a flare! I'm so sorry. Just know you're not alone. Love that you're leaning into what foods sound tolerable right now. Keep choosing kindness xoxo

Why ritz with butter but saltines with jam?

Abbie Attwood's avatar

lol I wish I had any sort of logic for you! just a combination I love. I think maybe it's the texture of the crackers with the spreads...just what I gravitate towards. Do you have anything like that?

This is so relatable, thanks for sharing!! Finding foods that I like while living with Long Covid has been such a journey !

The only comfort meal I ever want (sick or not) is Tofu Noodle Soup. It’s the perfect blend of nostalgia and delicious for us vegan/vegetarians. 🩵
