This episode was amazing and perfect for right now. I was just reading an infuriating Reddit thread where people were talking about why Japanese people live longer and are “healthier,” despite eating white rice. The mental gymnastics was nuts. People said they don’t eat much of it, which isn’t true. Other people said it was because they understand portion control. Ugh…it was just full of fat-phobia and trying to find the “answer” to health, which isn’t possible.

So well said, Elizabeth! That's the common narrative when it comes to health: "let's try to figure out what they eat, that must be the answer"..."oh wait, not if it involves that food..." Mental gymnastics is the right phrase!

This is so good, thank you for reposting it. With the huge boom of the “wellness” movement and Good Energy and what-not, I just keep asking how this can be the answer for everyone. Not everyone can afford all organic or regenerative food … so are they SOL? This conversation brought a lot of light to things I’ve wondered.

Thank you so much for listening and sharing this, Heidi! It really means so much to hear from you -- things that come up as you listen, especially. There is a lot of misinformation out there about ingredients, and even huge groups of foods (for example, organic is certainly not "healthier"!). Wellness needs to feel compassionate, not controlling. I'm hoping to get more into the weeds on this stuff in future episodes, so if you have questions, please let me know!
