I also think an important part of this conversation is the ignorant and despicable RFK and his MAHA movement, specifically with gutting the FDA and stripping regulations to make food safe. We had/have regulations in place to prevent horrible fillers, to monitor food borne illness/bacterias etc. people will get so sick. And we aren’t monitoring disease and illness anymore at the level acceptable to prevent food borne or other illnesses. And naturally, as is true always, the marginalized (poor and BIPOC and disabled etc) populations will always get hurt first. But in a fascist “America First” model, they are viewed as expendable. The scary thing is, any illness could land all of us disabled or poor, and so we are all far closer to “expendable” than not during this time. No one in the current admin/regime has any care for humanity. That is a fact at this rate.
What most people are still unaware of is that the plan is to put people on a universal basic income. It’s digital and programable money that will dictate what a person can and cannot buy. It’s part of a much larger system of control that has been developed and is slowly being implemented one small step at a time. The old system must be dismantled to bring it in.
I have so much compassion for people who need Medicaid and SNAP just to survive. It’s so despicable that the government thinks cutting those programs is going to improve the health of Americans when the economy is already in turmoil and people are living paycheck to paycheck.
The platform of this administration makes no sense. They claim to want to “solve” chronic health issues, but they are actively working to worsen them by depleting those in the most need of essential resources. People deserve to have enough food and the types of food that make them feel safe and nourished, whether diet culture deems them “healthy” or not.
The clean eating stuff is so replete with privilege, too. Plus, it has absolutely no definition. Choosing a UPF with “clean” ingredients versus one that someone deems “unclean” does not improve your health and is focusing on the wrong issues.
Elizabeth, thank you for this. So well said! Caring about health but then slashing programs and funding that actively supports people…make it make sense.
I wish it did make sense. I think they’re banking on people not questioning the status quo and just going along with it.
I unfortunately work on a contract with CMS and I get weekly emails from Dr. Oz that talk endlessly about MAHA, exercise, eating “healthy,” etc. How do you expect people to do those things when they’re worried about if they’ll have a job tomorrow or if they will be able to buy groceries for their family? Plus, the narratives around what to eat are so confusing, so expecting everyone to make sense of all the noise and panic doesn’t lead to health for anyone.
Yes yes yes!!!! Thank you for sharing this and saying these things. When people are scared they’re more inclined to fall for the seed oils BS or any other distraction of the day.

This plan has been developed long ago and it looks like it’s the new administration that is the problem but in reality he’s the perfect candidate for people to blame keeping people fighting so they are stressed and traumatized to distract them from this big nefarious agenda.
The sad truth is people do speak up, protest and call their representatives but they are bought to vote in favor of an agenda no matter the outcry. It would take a massive uprising to stop it.
